When the MGM lion roars he stops gruffly with
a vacant look on his face as though he forgot what he was roaring about. Maybe he forgot he was roaring. Maybe he thought it was another lion that was roaring, and now he's wondering, "Wat dat lion roarin' 'bout"?
There was a song from long ago called, The Signifying Monkey. The monkey, safely out of reach in a tree, scolds the lion below, "Wat you mean comin' 'round heah wit all dat roarin' sh*t?
Isn't that the usual reaction to roaring.
Indignation and no communication at all?
Roaring isn't about communication. Roaring is about announcement: "Hear me roar, tremble before my awesome majesty". People standing near a roaring lion say the ground actually does tremble.
Whether lion or man, roaring is about declaration, not discussion.
I hear a lot of roaring these days in emotional arguments. Emotional argument is an oxymoron. Argument is done with reason. Nothing comes from emotional roaring but annoying sound, signifying nothing.
Still, the roaring goes on, probably because it
feels good.
So, what happens when the lion has roared?
Not much.
